Kano releases N6m to tackle erosion after flood washed away 20-year-old graveyard

Not less than two months after gully erosion exhumed 20 years old dead body and flushed about 150 corpses away in Kano metropolis, the State Government has approved the release of N6.39 million for the procurement of materials for erosion control affecting 46 graveyards within the metropolis.

The State Commissioner for Information, Comrade Muhammad Garba made this known while briefing newsmen on the outcome of the state weekly Executive Council meeting.

It could be recalled that Cool Fm had in August exclusively reported the lingering gully erosion which mysteriously exhumed a corpse that was buried twenty years ago at Kuwait near Tudun Murtala area of Nasarawa Local Government Area of the State.

Eyewitness account revealed that the erosion exhumed a corpse that was buried twenty years ago and the corpse’s body remained intact before it was reburied. One of the residents, Mohammed Sani, while confirming the incident, said the entire people of the community were amazed after seeing a fresh body of a woman who died and was buried immediately according to Islamic rites at the nearby cemetery in the last 20 years.

Sani also told our correspondent that the erosion had divided the community as their children could not even trek to school in the neighbouring village. He added that they had attempted to get rid of the erosion by buying some trips of sound to fill it up, but their efforts were not enough to address the situation.

When our correspondent got to the scene of the incident, some of the residents also confirmed that in the past one year, the erosion had flushed away over 150 corpses at the cemetery. They also confirmed that they use to bury parts of dead bodies on weekly basis during rainy season.
