Low voters turn out mar Ogun LG elections

Published

on

The Local Government election in Ogun State on Saturday was marred with low turnout of voters as electoral officers arrived late.

When NEWSVERGE visited Sagamu, Mowe, Ibafo, Aseese and Magboro LCDAs, voters blamed the low turnout on lack of proper awareness for the elections.

The Officers of the Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSIEC) who eventually arrived at about 10:45am declined speaking with our reporters claiming the Commission had instructed them to demand written document before journalists could be allowed at the polling centres.

The electoral officer told the few voters to conduct themselves orderly and that those with temporary voters card will be attended to only if their name is found on the register.

An Okada rider who identified himself as Innocent, said he has been living in Ibafo-Aseese area for past 15years, claiming that the state government has continued to fail the electorates and that there is no reason to vote since they already have who they want in the offices.
