PenCom romances state governments with housing project
Indications have emerged that the National Pension Commission (PenCom) is set to attract state governments that are yet to embrace the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS) with a proposed houses to be constructed for pension contributors.
Director-General of PenCom, Mrs. Chinelo Anohu-Amazu, who gave the hint recently said that the commission has initiated discussions with state governments on how to get houses for their workers.
Anohu-Amazu, explained that for states to benefit from the initiative, they have to first sign in to the scheme, stressing that working with state governments would help make houses easily accessible for workers.
“The state governments are very key in this drive and we are talking with them, because they have the lands and also want houses for their workers. I believe reaching out to the state governments could be a faster way to achieve the vision.
“When you talk of provision of houses at the national level, it becomes a bit cumbersome. When we break it down to states, it becomes easy to achieve and that brings to the fact that all the states have to sign in to the contributory pension scheme, so that they can avail themselves that opportunity to provide houses for the indigenes at a municipal level.”
