Investors counsel on importance of market data for investment decision

 

Domestic and indeed foreign portfolio investors have been advised on the importance of market data for positive investment decisions and wealth generation.

Speakers and panelists who are key players in information technology and capital market gave the advise at the market data workshop organised by The Nigerian Stock Exchange in Lagos.

The market data workshop was first of its kind and has as its central theme: ‘Understanding Market Data for Savvy Investing and Wealth Generation’.

In his welcome address, Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Stock Exchange, Oscar Onyema, set the tone for the discussions to follow. He explained that market data refer to the pre and post trade-related data for the financial instruments traded on the NSE.

He reiterated that market data informs traders, investors, media and others in the capital market on the quotations, latest price, and historical trends for the equities, fixed-income, and ETF products that are traded on the platform.

In his keynote address, the Statistician General of the Federation, Dr Yemi Kale lauded the NSE for the innovation. He noted that data is playing vital roles in all works of life today.

Speaking further, the Chief Executive Officer of the National Bureau of Statistics urged the NSE to integrate market information on all their platforms. He believes this will guide momentum retail investors to make right decisions based on available data.

Executive Director of The Nigerian Stock Exchange for Market Operations and Technology, Ade Bajomo gave a graphic presentation of the products offered by the Exchange.

Further insights on the imperatives of market data for economic and investment decisions were enumerated as key experts in the capital market discussed in a panel.

Moderated by Channels television’s Harriet Agbeneyin, the discussants noted that there is correlation between accessible data and performance. It was also noted that there is every need to step  up the game of letting clients have unhindered access to market data.

The panel discussion was in two separate sessions with different set of panellists.

The discussants include; Haruna Jalo-Waziri, Executive Director, Capital Markets Division of NSE, Bola Ajomale, MD, NASD Plc, Ade Ewuosho, Head, Market Services and Kemi Oluwashina, Executive Director, ARM Securities.

Others are, Uchenna Igwebuike, CEO, Zanibal, Buki Abu, ETF Product Manager, Obiora Anyichie, MD/CEO Global Trybe Solutions, Amos Emmanuel, CEO Programs Software Group, Uwa Agbonile, CEO, Infoware Ltd and the duo of Natasha Punwani and Daniel Eve of Bloomberg L.P.
