Wheelbarrow pusher to spend 1 year in jail for theft
A Mararaba Upper Area Court in Nasararwa on Friday sentenced a 21-year-old wheelbarrow pusher, Gombo Isah, to one year imprisonment for stealing a wheelbarrow.
Isah, who resides at Opposite Shopping Centre, Mararaba, NasarWa State, was convicted on two-count charge of criminal conspiracy and theft.
The Area Court Judge, Ibrahim Shekarau, convicted Isah after he pleaded guilty to the charges.
Shakerau , however, gave the convict an option of N3,000 as fine and ordered him to pay compensation of N6,000 to the complainant .
He said that the money should be paid within one month or the convict should spend additional one month in prison.
Earlier, the Prosecutor, Hemen Donald, told the court that Muhammed Salisu of Tudun Wada, Mararaba , Nasarawa State, on Oct. 14, reported the matter at the ‘A’ Division Police Station.
Donald said that the accused criminally conspired with one Philip Godwin, now at large, and stole a wheelbarrow valued N12, 000.
According to the prosecutor, the complainant caught the accused in the act.
He said that Isah admitted to the crime on interrogation by the police.
Donald said that the offence contravened sections 97and 287 of the Penal Code.
