Okocha backs Iheanacho to leave Man City

Kelechi Iheanacho has appealed to Manchester City fans to exercise patience with the team following underwhelming displays in recent matches.

The Citizens have failed to win in their last five games in all competitions and had to come from behind to rescue a point against Southampton in the English Premier League on Sunday.

Iheanacho has called for restraint and insists that the team will soon turn the corner.

“There is no problem with City manager, Pep Guardiola’s system – we need to get our heads straight and focus on the next games.

“The fans need to know that we are football players, but we are human beings as well. We didn’t come from a different planet – we are of this world.

“I know the fans expect a lot from us, as players, but we are capable of losing and drawing as well as winning.

“There are a lot of games to go, so they need to have patience and get behind us.

“We’ll get there soon and make them proud,” Iheanacho told reporters.

City’s form has been poor but Iheanacho’s has been outstanding, to say the least.

On Sunday, it was his heroics that saved City’s blushes as he netted in the second half to help his side claim a share of the spoils against Southampton at the Etihad Stadium in the Premier League.

Guardiola had opted to start the contest with Argentinean striker, Sergio Aguero as his lone attacking weapon up front but the decision proved to be anything but inspired as City trailed 0-1 at the interval.

With City staring down the barrel, Guardiola was left with little option than throwing the Super Eagles attacker into the fray.

The former Golden Eaglets man took the place of the injured Belgian, Kevin de Bruyne at the start of the second half and announced his introduction with deadly efficiency.

The goal was a thing of beauty as Fernandinho provided a floated pass which was brilliantly latched onto by Leroy Sane with the lethal Iheanacho finishing with poise and panache.

Now City aim to end their winless run at Old Trafford in the EFL Cup derby after cruising to a 2-1 win there in September, but Iheanacho who scored in that win has warned it will be tougher this time.

Iheanacho has now scored eight times in his last 11 league appearances for City.

His conversion rate is equally impressive as he has now netted 11 goals from 17 shots on target.
