Lawmaker lauds Ishaku for restoring peace in Taraba

Ishaku extends time frame for inquiry into Mambilla Plateau crisis

 

The Deputy Senate Minority Leader and Senator representing Taraba South in the National Assembly, Emmanuel Bwacha has lauded Governor Darius Ishaku for restoring peace in the state.

Bwacha who was speaking in his home town Mararaba when the leadership of Tiv in the state led by their President Mr. Goodman Dahida paid him a courtesy call yesterday said even if the governor did not achieve any other thing, the peace being enjoyed in the state was a great achievement.

The senator called for unity among the Tiv people in the state, saying with their population in the state, if they are united they can achieve a lot politically.

Bwacha who lamented that the Tiv people have over the years been treated unfairly in the state called on government at all levels in the state to carry the Tiv people along.

“You all know that Tiv has only one district in Taraba which I influenced. It almost cost me, but I stood firm.

“It is wrong to discriminate against Tiv in the state. Tiv people should be carried along for the purpose of development. All that I have been doing for the Tiv and other ethnic groups in the zone is not because of politics, but my covenant with God and for justice,” he said.

He task the leadership of Tiv culture to unit their people in the state and call for support for the leadership among Tiv and government to enable them succeed, even as he cautioned the leadership against trading their people for personal gains.

Earlier, leader of the group, Mr Goodman Dahida told the senator that they were in his house to appreciate him for all that he has been doing for the Tiv people and for the good representation he has given the people of Taraba South in the National Assembly.

He urged the senator to intensify lobby for the construction of the remaining section of the Wukari-Takum road because of the economic importance of the road.

Dahida also appeal to the senator to consider employment opportunities for his people into federal government ministries, department and agencies, adding that his people would continue to support governor Ishaku’s efforts at restoring peace in the state.
