Ogun PDP suspends Kashamu, 7 others
A faction of the PDP in Ogun led by Mr Sikirulai Ogundele on Friday suspended the Senator representing Ogun East senatorial district, Senator Buruji Kashamu, and seven other party stalwarts.
The suspended people are the factional state Chairman, Bayo Dayo, and the Secretary, Semiu Shodipo.
Others are Pegba Otemolu, Fatai Adeyanju, Segun Seriki, Daisi Akitan and Bowale Solaja.
A statement by Ogundele and his secretary, Olabode Bankole, said the people were suspended sequel to the report of a panel which was constituted in June to investigate allegations of financial impropriety and anti-party activities.
“Based on the preliminary report of the panel submitted to the executive committee of the People’s Democratic Party, Ogun State Chapter, we found merit in the allegations.
“We hereby adopt the report and findings of the panel which include recommendation to suspend the people.
“Their names have also been forwarded to the national secretariat of the party for necessary and further appropriate disciplinary actions, “the statement said.
But in his reaction, Kashamu said that no one could suspend, denying allegations of financial impropriety levelled against him.
Describing Ogundele as an interloper, Kashamu said that he had spent his resources on the party, noting that he was shocked by the allegation of financial impropriety made against him.
In a statement by his media aide, Mr Austin Oniyokor, Kashamu said: “the alleged diversion of party funds is most laughable because it is common knowledge that I have been using my personal funds to keep the party going.
“Besides, their purported action shows that Ogundele and his colleagues are either strangers in the party or ignorant of the party’s constitution or both.
“The zonal and state exco are intact. They have been recognised by the Independent National Electoral Commission and affirmed by the courts before the national leadership crisis broke out”, he said.
