Amosun presents N50m grants-in-aid to CDAs

The Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun has presented a cheque of N50 Million to Community Development Associations as (CDAs) Grants-in-Aid to about 300 CDAs in compliment of their self-help projects across the State.

The governor while presented the cheque at the International Community Day Celebration, held at MKO Abiola stadium in Abeokuta, described the Community Development Associations as a veritable tools in nation building.

“I want to appreciate the CDAs for their self-help spirit, it’s evident that the government alone cannot shoulder all the responsibilities of developmental projects in the country, indeed, I really appreciate your efforts in putting all necessary development in places especially in community areas”, Amosun said.

He also pledged to accord priority in the construction of their secretariat in the State with the promise of N5Million to fast track the completion of their fitable secretariat complex as it’s important for them to have such in the state capital of the state.

Speaking earlier, the state Commissioner for Community Development and Cooperatives, Hon, Gbenga Adenmosun stated that about 300 CDAs, 100 CDCs and 20 Zonal Community Development Committee would benefit from the Grants-in-Aids and subvention being disbursed to them by the state government.

He explained that the CDAs had adopted the self-help projects to provide their basic fundamental needs, using their time, money and other resources in developing their various communities believing that government alone cannot shoulder the responsibility.

Adenmosun urged the CDAs not relent on their oars in providing necessary assistance to their communities as the government would always appreciate them both financially and morally, noting that the development of CDAs in any community cannot be over emphasised.

“In fact, saying that you are doing your best is understatement, you really have done well for state as whole and we do appreciate you for that. Am soliciting for your continual support in developing our dear state as you all aware that government alone cannot shoulder the responsibility, we will do our best but your contributions too is very crucial and essential in nation building”, Adenmosun urged.

Highlights of the events include, foundation laying of the council secretariat which was performed by the state deputy governor, Chief (Mrs) Yetunde Onanuga and the presentation of Awards of Excellence in community development to deserving citizens of the state.
