The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has predicted dusty hazy weather conditions over the central states of the country with reduced horizontal visibility range of two to three kilometers on Monday.

NiMet made the prediction in the Weather Outlook by its Central Forecast Office on Sunday in Abuja.

It added that the region would have day and night temperature of between 33 to 35 degrees Celsius and 15 to 23 degrees Celsius respectively.

The agency also predicted that the southern states would experience cloudy to partly cloudy conditions over the entire inland and coastal cities in the morning and afternoon hours.

It also predicted isolated thunderstorms over Port-Harcourt, Calabar, Lagos, Eket, Yenagoa and Ikom with day and night time temperatures of 30 to 35 degrees Celsius and 20 to 27 degrees Celsius respectively.

According to NiMet, northern states will experience dust haze over Sokoto, Kano Gusau, Katsina and Yelwa with reduced visibility range of two to three kilometers.

“Some places may experience visibility less than 1000 metres with day and night temperatures of 31 to 38 degrees Celsius and 15 to 19 degrees Celsius respectively.

“Dust particles already in suspension in the atmosphere are expected to reduce the horizontal visibility over the north down to the central cities, though areas around the north eastern axis will experience better visibility.

“The southern cities are expected to experience cloudy to partly cloudy conditions in the morning with prospects of localised thunderstorms in the afternoon over some cities within the next 24 hours,’’ NiMet predicted.
