Ogun border communities rejects construction of new 60bn road, demands completion of abandoned roads

Coalition of Border Communities Development Associations CBCDA in Ogun State, has called on the state governor Ibikunle Amosun to jettison  the planned expansion of Abeokuta-Siun-Sagamu expressway  project and focus on ‎several uncompleted road projects littering bordering communities in the state.

The coalition in a Press Statement signed by its Chairman Ayo-Oloye Samuel said the government  should first provide conducive environment for it growing population working and residing communities bordering Lagos State.

The Coalition decried the continuous neglects of hundreds of communities bordering Lagos State which roads are in deplorable conditions.

The Coalition agues that Abeokuta/Sagamu road re-construction to 10 lane with 60 billion shows gross insensitivity of the Ogun state government to yearning of the people.

“Life’s and well being of millions living in communities very close to Lagos State should be given priority against these ‘big time investors and multinational companies, including about three car assembly plants’.

“If the state cannot completes all ongoing road projects, it’s abnormal to embark on new one that will gulp a whopping sum of 60bn‎.  We believe the governor’s focus at these moment should be completing projects initiated by his administration.

“The government is yet to complete the 32km Sango- Ijoko-Agbado- Oke-Aro-Akute- Ojodu Abiodun road which has brought severe untold hardship to residents of communities along that corridor.

“The last time construction work was done on the 32km abandoned road project was in November 2014. The project had kicked off in late 2012.

‎”Also in  Magboro, Makogi, Sefu and Abule Oba, in the Obafemi Owode Local ‎Government, communities residents have resolved to self help to raise fund for completion of a government abandoned road project.

Other terrible roads includes, we have roads in Agbado, Lanfenwa-Itele, Adiyan, Matogun, Ijoko, Lambe, Oju-Ore – Ilogbo among others where roads are totally unaccessible during raining seasons.”

The coalition however, urged the state government to direct the newly created Local Council Development ‎Areas LCDA o begin immediate repairs on the major roads in their domain.

‎”This is how the LCDA impact could be felt because many of these communities had never enjoyed any dividend of democracy from the Ogun State Government, many even wonder if government at any level exist in these communities.” Ayo-Oloye said.
