Tambuwal urges religious groups to be advocates of behavioural change

Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State says fervent prayers by Nigerians remain the only solution to the country’s woes.

The governor made the remark in Sokoto on Monday at an event to celebrate Eid el-Maulud, the birth of Prophet Muhammad, organised by the state’s chapter of the Islamic  Shababul Qadiriya Movement.

Represented by the state’s Commissioner for Religious Affairs, Alhaji Mani Katami, the governor said  “prayers should be intensified by all Nigerians, irrespective of religious, political or ethnic differences.

“With prayers, Nigeria will soon overcome her challenges.

“We should also continue to be our brothers’ keepers, be patriotic, love one another and accord top priority to the indivisibility, as well as the unity of the nation.”

He also urged parents to continue to enrol their children to acquire both religious and western education.

Tambuwal solicited the support of Nigerians to the ongoing anti-corruption fight by President Muhammadu Buhari, saying that corruption was abhorred by both Islam and Christianity.

The governor promised to accord top priority to education, as well as providing an enabling environment for Quranic schools to thrive.

”We will soon conduct a census of these schools to ascertain their number and know how to improve them,” he added.

The Chairman of the occasion, Prof. Sambo Junaidu, said the event was organised to commemorate the birth of the Holy Prophet Muhammad, Peace Be Upon Him.

Junaidu also said it was  to reflect on the prophet’s virtuous life, with a view to emulating his sterling qualities of humility, piety and generosity, among others.

The Guest Speaker, Sheikh Abdulgafar Kabara, the Kano State Justice Commissioner, commended Tambuwal for the sustained cordial relationship with the movement.

The Chairman of the movement in Sokoto State, Malam Ahmad Abdullahi and several other speakers urged the Muslim Ummah to live their lives according to Islamic injunctions.
