Taraba CAN wants FG to end farmer's massacre across the country

The Taraba state chairman of Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Rev. Dr. Ben Ubeh has called on the federal government to end attacks against Christian farmers across the country.

He made the call on Sunday in Jalingo while speaking to journalists on his expectations in the new year.

Rev. Ubeh who is also the founder and general overseer of Christ Glorious Army, Jalingo noted that since the federal government have succeeded in degrading Boko Haram, the same attention should be given to the issue of herdsmen terrorising farmers across the country.

“We cannot continue like this in this country. Just few days ago, herdsmen attacked a village in Ardo Kola local government and destroyed the whole village.  Few days to Christmas, Sabon-gida Takai and Dan-Anacha also came under attack by herdsmen.

“Look at the situation in Southern Kaduna where the place was under 24 hours curfew, yet the herdsmen attacked and killed people there.

“The federal government must be more committed to ending the bloodshed this new year, ” he said.

On the hardships being faced by Nigerians, the clergyman expressed hope that God will wipe away the hardships but called on leaders to be prudent in the management of resources and device ways of ending the current recession.

While congratulating Taraba Gov.  Darius Ishaku, the good people of Taraba and Nigerians in the New Year, the CAN Chairman called on the governor to expedite action in the payment of local government and teacher’s salaries in the state.

“We are proud of the achievements of the governor in the state, but he should do more in the new year in terms of payment of local government and teachers salaries.

“As a body, CAN Taraba State chapter will continue to pray for the governor and his team to succeed. We are also committed in preaching peaceful coexistence among the people for development to thrive.”

On the condition of the internally displaced persons in camps as a result of renewed killings by herdsmen in some parts of the state, Rev. Ubeh urged the government to deploy security in the affected communities to enable those affected return to their homes.
