Tears in Osun as siblings drown inside river, die on New Year celebration

Tragedy struck at Oke-Ijetu along Ilesa garage in Osogbo, the state capital of Osun on the eve of new year as two siblings drowned inside a river and died.

Our correspondent learnt on Sunday that the victims were teenagers.

It was learnt that the victims had travelled to Osogbo to celebrate the new year festival.

According to sources, the victims are from same parents.

One of the eyewitnesses said, “the two siblings who are 16 and 14years of age respectively are playing football in a pitch very close to the river.

“They came all the way from Lagos state to celebrate their new year with one of their elder sisters in Osogbo when they died. They drowned while attempting to pick their ball that felt into the river.”

Our correspondent authoritatively gathered that the corpse of the two deceased were deposited at the Asuebiro hospital mortuary in Osogbo.

When contacted the Osun state Police Public Relation Officer, Mrs. Folasade Odoro, confirmed ‎the incident but could not give concrete details.
