The Taraba State Governor, Darius Ishaku has charged traditional rulers in the state to check the influx of criminal herdsmen from neighbouring countries into the state.

Ishaku gave the charge on Sunday in Serti, Gashaka local government while presenting the staff of office to the Lamdo Gashaka, Alhaji Zubairu Hamman Gabdo Muhammad Sambo.

The governor who described the late Dr. Hamman Gabdo Sambo whose reign spanned from 1965 to 2016 as a great leader, urged the new monarch to emulate his qualities and always stand for truth, justice and peace.

“I want you to join hands with other chiefs and security agents to check the massive influx of criminal herdsmen and other strangers from neighbouring countries into the state.

“You are coming on board when the state and the country are passing through serious  security challenges.

“I want you to emulate the leadership qualities of your late father, who stood for peace all through his 51 year reign,” he charged.

Responding shortly after receiving staff of office, the new Chief, Alhaji Zubairu Sambo, pledged to ensure equity, justice and peace for the people of his Chiefdom.

The 47 year old first class chief, urged his people to support constituted authorities and report any strange faces around them to traditional rulers and security agents in order to sustain peace and attract development to the area.

“I urge you all to remain patient, understanding and supportive of the constituted authorities for a better society.

“I want to assure you that my reign will continue to promote equity, fairness, justice and peace the same way my late father, Dr. Muhammed Sambo did during his time.

” I also want to ask all of you to go back to the farm in order to ensure food security for the state and the nation,” he said.

While commending Gov Darius Ishaku of Taraba and the people of Gashaka for finding him worthy to serve, Sambo called on government to provide electricity and other social amenities for the people of Gashaka.

Alhaji Zubairu, a journalist by profession, and immediate past Special Adviser to Governor Ishaku on Special Duties became the 9th Lamdo of Gashaka which came in to being in 1864.

The occasion witnessed large crowd of people who came from far and near to grace the occasion, including the former PDP National Chairman, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, traditional rulers from Nigeria and the Republic of Cameron among others.
