Lawmaker condemns xenophobic attacks on Nigerians
A member of Osun House of Assembly, Mr Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, on Tuesday described the recent attacks on Nigerians in South Africa as barbaric and uncalled for.
Oyintiloye told Newsverge in Osogbo that the attacks were unacceptable to the government and people of Nigeria.
According to him, since South Africans in Nigeria are not being harassed in any form, the attack on Nigerians in South Africa constitutes injustice.
Oyintiloye, who is the House Committee Chairman on Information and Strategy, called on the South African government to put all necessary measures in place to safeguard the lives of Nigerians in that country.
The lawmaker, while calling on Nigerians in South Africans to be calm in the face of provocation, urged them to be vigilant and law abiding.
He also appealed to the Federal Government to call the attention of the African Union and other relevant organisations to the killings of Nigerians in that country with a view to stopping this.
The lawmaker also called on the Nigerian government to do everything within its power to protect Nigerians in South Africa, saying the continued attack on them might have serious consequences.
“It is very sad the way and manner Nigerians are being attacked by South Africans.
“This is crime against humanity and I am appealing to the South African government to put a stop to this killing.
“In as much as the Federal Government is protecting South Africans in Nigeria, I think Nigerians in South Africa should also be protected,” he said.
