Enugu Govt. to find lasting solution to herdsmen/farmers crisis – Official
Enugu State Government says that it will find lasting solution to all forms of crisis between herdsmen and farmers in some council areas of the state.
The Chairman, Enugu State Security and Peace Committee, Retired Brig.-Gen. Fred Eze, disclosed this to Newsverge on Friday in Enugu.
Eze said that the government was working hard to ensure unity among all groups in communities and council areas with a view to bring lasting peace and understanding.
According to him, we are looking at a situation where farmers and herdsmen can co-exist very amicably as it had been for decades in the state.
He said that the government would arrest and prosecute any person caught with unauthorised arms and ammunition in localities.
The chairman noted that no herdsman should rear cattle in any part of the state without authorisation and guidelines.
Newsverge reports that the security and peace committee would be meeting farmers and herdsmen in Nkanu-West and Nkanu-East council areas soon.
The committee, made-up of eminent personalities, community leaders, farmers and herdsmen, was set-up by Gov. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi to broker peace and reconcile all aggrieved members of communities and bring lasting peace to Enugu State.
