Federal University Wukari holds maiden convocation, graduates 394
The Federal University of Wukari (FUW) in Taraba state will today (Saturday) hold its maiden convocation ceremony after graduating its first set of students.
The University which was established in 2011 by former President Goodluck Jonathan along side 11 commenced academic activities in the 2011/2012 academic session.
Speaking at the pre-convocation press briefing on yesterday at the institution’s conference hall, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Abubakar M. Kundiri said the convocation is of great significance to the University in many ramifications including a stepping stone for post graduate studies and research.
At the convocation ceremony, according to the Vice Chancellor, the University would be awarding Bachelors of Arts and Science degree to 394 graduands that met the specified requirements for the award of the degrees.
According to Prof. Kundiri, 16 of the 394 graduates would be awarded 1st class while 166 would be awarded 2nd class ( Upper) and another 192 would be awarded 2nd class (lower) just as 20 would receive 3rd class degrees.
Accordingly, three people would be conferred with Honorary Doctorate Degrees on the occasion among whom is former Chief of Army Staff and Minister of Defence, Lt. General T.Y. Danjuma, who is a foremost indigene of Taraba state who would be conferred with a Honorary Degree of Doctor of Science (Honoris Causa).
Others are the Ona of Abaji, Alhaji Adamu Baba Yunusa who would be conferred with Honorary Degree of Doctor of Letters (Honoris Causa) and the Aku Uka of Wukari, Dr. Shekarau Angyu Masa Ibi who would also be conferred with Honorary Degree of Doctor of Letters (Honoris Causa).
In the same vein, His Royal Highness, Alhaji Adamu Baba Yunusa would be officially installed as the Chancellor of the University by the President, who is the Visitor to the University.
Kundiri who was appointed VC in February 2016 noted that he has succeeded in completing several ongoing projects in the school among which are the University library building, ICT Centre, 1000 seated capacity lecture theatre and network of roads in the school.
He thanked the Taraba state government and the host community Wukari, particularly the Aku Uka and other sons and daughters of the town for their tremendous support to the institution which according to him had gone a long way to contribute to the milestone attained by the University so far.
