Al-makura pays surprise visit to primary school, tasks teachers on quality education
Gov. Tanko Al-makura of Nasarawa State on Tuesday paid a surprise visit to U.P.E. Primary School, Ashige in Lafia Local Government, to assess the commitment of teachers to quality education.
Newsverge reports that the governor, after going round the classes, addressed the teachers and pupils where he restated his resolve to improve the quality of education.
He described education as key to any human development, and declared that the sector would continue to receive special attention during budgetary allocations.
“Our administration has placed so much impetus on the development of education and shall do everything possible to provide materials that are crucial to teaching and learning,” he said.
He appealed to parents in Ashige village to support teachers and government’s efforts toward quality education, pointing out that the future of the community depended solely on the education acquired by their children.
According to him, educating the children at an early age will reduce vices like drug addiction, prostitution, occultism, violence and other vices that have become very common.
He promised that rehabilitation work on the only primary school in the village would commence “before the end of the week”.
The governor also assured the pupils that sports equipment would be provided to boost sporting activities and fish out talents hidden in the hinterlands.
