Man docked over alleged defilement of 2-year-old girl
A 37-year-old man, Johnson Ugwu, was on Friday arraigned in an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly defiling his neighbour’s two-year-old girl.
The defendant, a trader, who resides at 1, Duru Close, Shomolu, a suburb of Lagos, was docked on a count charge of defilement.
The prosecutor, Insp. Clifford Ogu, told the court that the offence was committed on March 26, at the accused residence.
Ogu said that the girl was playing outside with her mates when the defendant called her inside.
“The accused inserted his finger into the girl’s private part and she started bleeding.
“The girl’s mother saw blood stains on her and she asked what happened, the girl pointed at the accused, “he said.
Ogu said that the girl was taken to the hospital and the result showed that her private part was tampered with.
The offence contravened Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Taiwo Akanni, granted the accused bail in the sum of N250,000 with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case till April 26.
