Mrs Obiano’s pet project empowers 2,500 Anambra
The ‘Caring Family Enhancement Initiative’ (CAFÉ), a pet project of Anambra Governor’s wife, Mrs Ebelechukwu Obiano, has empowered no fewer than 2,500 women since its inception in 2014.
Obiano made this known on Friday when she visited Achalla, Amanuke, Urum, Mgbakwu and Isuanaocha communities in Awka North Local Government area of the state.
She urged the women to take advantage of CAFÉ programmes, which, according to her, provides succour and empowerment to indigent women and widows.
She said that the programmes included tailoring and fashion designing, soap making, baking and confectionery, hair dressing and beauty therapy as well as interior decoration, among others.
The governor’s wife assured the people that the state government would address the challenge of bad roads confronting the communities, especially during the rainy season.
She further said that the government would also speed up ongoing road projects in the area, to enable the people to evacuate their agricultural produce.
She commended the rural women and the doggedness of the artisans, who had formed associations with a view to achieving their objectives.
She encouraged them to also take advantage of the government loan scheme to improve their businesses.
Obiano, who has so far visited over 125 of the 181 communities in the state, said that the primary concern of the governor was the welfare of the people and the development of the communities.
In her remarks, the Commissioner for Social Welfare, Children and Women Affairs, Dr Victoria Chikwelu, told the people that the empowerment tour was a yearly statutory obligation to the people.
