Reps urge FG to establish medical center at Tsanyawa, Kano
The House of Representatives has urged the Ministry of Health to establish a medical centre in Tsanyawa Local Government Area of Kano.
This followed the adoption of a motion sponsored by Rep. Sani Bala (Kano-APC).
Bala said that the essence of the motion was to draw the attention of the Federal Government to the need to establish a healthcare that would provide the medical needs of Tsanyawa people.
According to him, Tsanyawa town with its fast growing population lack medical services that will adequately handle the multifarious life threatening diseases prevalent in the area, especially the rising rate of child mortality.
“The people have to travel long distances, at times as far as 86 kilometres to Kano and 94 kilometres to Katsina and even 218 kilometres to Jigawa to obtain treatment and other medical services.
“Successive governments failed to take proactive measures to mitigate the hardship the people encounter before accessing health care services,’’ Bala said.
Ruling on the motion, the Deputy Speaker, Yussuff Lasun, who presided at plenary, said that in line with the standing rules, the house would not debate on the motion because it was an infrastructure related one.
Lasun, therefore, mandated the Committee on Health Institutions to ensure implementation and report back in eight weeks.
