NMA inaugurates committee to check quackery in Nasarawa state
Nasarawa state chapter of Nigeria Medical Association (NMA) has inaugurated a committee to curtail the activities of quack doctors in the state.
Dr. Christopher Ejikeme, NMA chairman in the state, disclosed this to newsmen on Sunday, shortly after the association’s Ordinary General Meeting (OGM) in Lafia.
He decried the alarming rate of medical quacks in the state, saying Nasarawa was rated highest in the country in terms of quackery in the medical profession.
“Part of our agenda at the OGM was to fashion out ways of curtailing quackery in the medical practices in Nasaarawa state, which informed the setting up of the committee.
“The committee will join forces with the state government through the ministry of health, to check the activities of quacks in the medical profession in the state, ” he said.
Ejikeme said that the state NMA, under his watch, would not relent until all quack doctors operating in the state were ‘flushed out’.
The NMA chairman cautioned members of the public against patronizing hospitals and clinics not approved by government in order not to fall victims of quacks.
He said that the meeting also deliberated extensively on measures to tackle the menace of Lassa fever in the state through intensified awareness campaign on its prevalence and control.
