Nollywood full of opportunities, says Veteran
Tony Umez, a veteran actor, on Monday said that the Nigerian entertainment industry was vibrant enough to accommodate serious minded thespians who wished to carve a niche in the profession.
Umez told our correspondent in Lagos that upcoming thespians could avail themselves of the opportunities the industry had to offer.
“There are a lot of opportunities for someone to make it big in the entertainment industry because of its diversity in cultural perspective.
“The only criteria needed for an upcoming individual to make it in this industry is creativity,’’ the actor said.
He said that he was pleased with the quality of new entertainers in the industry and expressed optimism in the potential of the industry as a foreign exchange earner.
“People coming into the industry now are graduates that have something positive to offer regarding entertaining audiences.
“Also, the influx of intelligent people, who are knowledgeable about the art is gradually reducing mediocrity in the industry,’’ Umez added.
The actor lauded the Lagos State Government’s effort to develop the industry in the state and the country, as a whole.
Our correspondent reports that the Lagos State Government under Gov. Akinwunmi Ambode recently promised to renovate the National Theatre.
The government, in addition, promised to provide six theatres in strategic locations of the metropolis in a bid to improve entertainment in the state.
