Nigeria to cooperate with India on ICT – Minister

No fewer than 150 youths on Friday in Ibadan began a training programme on the use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT).

The training programme, which was organised by an Islamic group, Badru-dinl Islamic Circle of Nigeria, was sponsored by the Minister of Communication, Mr Adebayo Shittu.

The Amiral of the group, Alhaja Muyibat Woli, said the initiative was to improve the knowledge of youths in the use of ICT.

He added that the four-day programme would ensure that youths were self reliant while aligning themselves with global ICT trend.

Woli said the training programme, which would have a practical session, would focus on website application development, mobile application development and networking.

Prof. Abdulganiyu Raji, a former Director of ICT at the University of Ibadan, said ICT was one of the most important tools needed in every profession.

Raji, a Professor of Environmental and Agricultural Engineering, said training youths on the use of ICT would expand their intellectual capacity and enable them contribute positively to societal development.

He advised the youths to utilise the knowledge gained from the training, saying this could make them become employers of labour.

A lecturer, Dr Salawudeen Taofeek, commended the minister for facilitating the programme, noting that it would help curb unemployment in the state.
