Democracy Day: Badaru urges Jigawa people to stay indoors and pray

Gov. Mohammed Abubakar of Bauchi State has announced the intention of his administration to procure tricycles on loan for the state chapter of the National Association of Commercial Tricycles and Motorcycles of Nigeria.

Abubakar announced this in Bauchi while addressing officials of the association who paid him a visit in his office on Monday.

He said that the plan was part of efforts being made by the government to provide efficient and effective public transport services to the people of the state.

Abubakar, who did not mention the quantity of the tricycles to be bought, said the cycles would be distributed to members of the association on a loan basis, but at subsidised rates to better their income.

He said that beneficiaries would have the tricycles distributed to them directly without having to go through intermediaries to avoid unforeseen circumstances.

The governor also announced the donation of a bus to the association to enable its officials to carry out their duties without hindrances.

The Chairman of the association, Alhaji Ubale Ahmed, had earlier commended the governor for not banning the use of motorcycles as done by other state governors.

Ahmed, however, urged the governor to hasten the execution of the purchase of the tricycles, saying the plan would boost the transportation system of the state, especially in the urban centres.

He also commended the governor for embarking on various road projects, which according to him, would help to ease the hardship experienced by motorists and passengers.

The chairman assured the governor that his members would support whatever programme of the administration aimed at boosting the economic and social welfare of the people.
