Lawyer urges Imo Govt. to adopt whistle blowing policy
A lawyer in Imo, Mr Blessing Iweajunwa, has advised the State Government to key into the whistle blowing policy introduced by the Federal Government to effectively tackle corruption.
Iweajunwa, who is also a right activist, gave this advice in an interview with our reporter on Wednesday in Owerri.
She said that with the level of success the policy had recorded at the federal level, it could be replicated in Imo.
“This policy has helped the Federal Government to recover billions of naira and many corrupt leaders are now facing trial.
“I want Gov. Rochas Okorocha to adopt the policy in Imo because many people are willing to blow the whistle here,” he said.
According to the lawyer, since successive governors in Imo have not deemed it fit to probe their predecessors, only the whistle blowing policy can expose such leaders.
She said in spite of the Federal Government’s bailout Paris Club fund, which was given to Imo, workers had yet to be paid their salaries.
Iweajunwa pointed out that with the policy; the Imo Government could realise millions of naira from corrupt leaders and use the money to clear the controversial pension arrears.
She, however, urged the State Government not to relent in its efforts of ensuring adequate security in the state.
