NUGA Games: UAM trade tackles with UNILORIN for gold in football
Hosts, Federal University of Agriculture, Makurdi (UAM), and University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) are to play for the football event gold medal of the ongoing 25th Nigeria University Games Association (NUGA) Games.
Our correspondent reports that the Games which began on April 19 are expected to end on April 29 at the UAM Sports Complex.
UAM which maintained an unbeaten record since the commencement of the football event thrashed Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU) 3-2 in the semi-finals to reach the final.
UNIILORIN on the other hand pipped Lagos State University (LASU) 1-0 to qualify.
The team had earlier defeated their rivals from the University of Calabar (UNICAL) at the quarter-finals 1-0, while UAM knocked out LASU 3-0 also in the quarter-finals.
ATBU will, however, lock horns with LASU for the bronze medal in a match to be played on Saturday morning at the UAM Sports Complex.
The final between UAM and UNILORIN will be decided at 4 p.m. at the venue.
Coach Avalumun Finbar of UAM, who expressed the hope of clinching the gold medal, told our correspondent that his boys had done well so far and lauded their dexterity and commitment to matches.
