Taraba: Death toll in mambilla crisis rises to 18
The police in Taraba yesterday said death toll from the crisis between the Fulani and Mambilla ethnic groups in Sardauna Local Government area of the state has risen to 18.

State Commissioner of Police, CP. Yakubu Babas disclosed this at a press briefing in Jalingo.
The commissioner noted that the Police and other security agencies had deployed enough men to the area to ensure protection of lives and property, even as he said two persons have so far been arrested in connection with the crisis.
“I want to use this medium to warn that nobody is untouchable no matter how highly placed.
“Investigation machinery have already been put in place to dig deep and unearth those that are behind the ungodly act and  bring them to book,” he said.
Babas explained that the remote cause of the crisis was the disagreement between the Fulanis and the Mambillas over land which the state government had set up a commission of inquiry to look into.
The police boss further explained that the immediate cause of the crisis was a court case involving a Fulani and Mambilla persons over the said land.
He appealed to the people of the Mambilla Plateau to eschew violence and embrace peace to attract development to the area.
