NPFL: Enyimba International whip Niger Tornadoes 3-0
Enyimba International Football Club of Aba on Sunday defeated Niger Tornadoes FC of Minna 3-0 in a Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) match at the U.J. Esuene Stadium in Calabar.
Ikechukw Ibenegbu put the Aba Elephants ahead just before the teams go for the half-time to end the first half 1-0 in this Match Day 28 fixture.
The two teams put up more spirited efforts when second half resumed, but Enyimba were the better side as Chinonso Okonkwo extended the lead in the 60th minute.
The goal demoralised the visitors and it was Enyimba all the way, with poor finishing holding the hosts back from scoring more goals.
However, Stanley Dimgba put the game beyond the reach of the visiting team when he made it 3-0 in the 89th minute.
Speaking after the match, coach Abubakar Bala of Tornadoes described the match as fair and balanced.
“It is one of those things. In a game like this, one team has to win. We don’t have any complaint, we will go back and sit down together to strategise on the next games,’’ he said.
Enyimba’s coach Gbenga Ogunbote said the team was now on course to gain a ticket to play on the continent next season.
“We have 10 matches remaining with five at home and five away. We shall take them one after the other and at the end we will see.
“Our target is a ticket to the continent, and it is still very possible for us,’’ he said.
