Anambra governorship aspirant pledges agricultural transformation, if elected
Mr Stephen Mbah, a Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) gvernorship aspirant in Anambra, has pledged to transform the agricultural sector of the state, if voted into power on Nov. 18.
Mbah, a pharmacist and the only aspirant of the party in the forthcoming exercise, made the promise in an interview with our reporter in Onitsha on Monday.
He said 40 per cent of the state’s annual income would be utilised for creating farm settlements across the state.
“My government will have a three-year programme to turn around the fortune of farmers in the state through mechanised farm settlements that will be established in many parts of the state.
“We are already discussing with foreign consultants to see how people, mostly youths and women, will be encouraged to live in farm settlement and produce yields for export and local consumption,” he said.
He expressed optimism that his plan, if given the mandate, would make Anambra the food basket of the nation.
Mbah also promised that his government would initiate a special programme for widows aimed at empowering them economically and ensure regular as well as prompt payment of workers’ salary.
“Ours is a party with socialist ideology and programmes for every one; free anti-natal care for women, scholarship for children and complete security for all among other programmes.”
