Petrol station attendant bolts with employer’s N490,000

Disregard rumour of fuel scarcity, NNPC tells Nigerians

A petrol station attendant, OreOluwa Owolabi, who allegedly stole her employer’s N490,755 , is facing trial at an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court.

The teenage girl was, however, released on N100, 000 bail with one surety in like sum.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Taiwo Akanni, who gave the ruling, said the sureties must be gainfully employed and should also show evidence of two years’ tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

The accused, 17, who resides at Ayinla Street, Campbell in Ogun, is standing trial on a charge of stealing.

She, however, entered a `not-guilty’ plea.

According to the prosecutor, Insp. Clifford Ogu, the accused committed the offence between Feb. 23 and June 22 at Total Petrol Station in Abule Egba, a Lagos suburb.

He said the accused stole N490,755 belonging to the station.

“When the meter being used by the accused was audited, it was discovered that N490, 755 worth of petrol was sold without remitting the money into the company’s account.

“The accused was apprehended and charged to court, ” he said.

The offence contravenes Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised)

It was reported that the section stipulates three years imprisonment for offenders.

The case was later adjourned until Aug. 2 for mention.
