The Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company (PHED) on Friday called for understanding over the electricity blackout in some parts of Port Harcourt.

Mr John Ony, PHED’s Manager, Corporate Communication, made the call in a statement issued in Port Harcourt.

Onyi said that blackout of some residential areas in the city was as a result of fire outbreak which occurred at a facility belonging to Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN).

“PHED wishes to inform her valued customers that current power outage that is being experienced in some part of Port Harcourt is as a result of fire outbreak.

“The incident, which took place on Thursday night, damaged a 60 MVA Incomer power transformer, which affected four critical outgoing 33KV feeders.

“The 60 MVA Incomer power transformer is located inside Oginigba Injection Substation in Trans Amadi area.

“The outage has mainly affected PHED customers’ resident and transacting business at Trans Amadi Industrial area, Rumuodomaya, Abuloma and Woji areas of Port Harcourt,” he said.

Onyi said that a team from TCN had been mobilised to the facility to ascertain the level of damage for necessary repair.
