Court jails man 3 months for attempted theft
A Karmo Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, on Tuesday sentenced a 20-year old man, Abdullahi Ibrahim, to three months imprison for joint act and attempted theft.
Ibrahim of Jabi Motor Park, Abuja, had pleaded guilty to a three-count charge of joint act, criminal trespass and attempt to steal.
The judge, Sadiq Abubakar, however,gave the convict an option of N10, 000 fine, and warned him to desist from committing crime.
The prosecutor, Dalhatu Zannah, told the court that one Eugene Dauda of Redeem Christian Church of God, behind Good Tiding Church, Utako, reported the matter at Utako Police Station on July 9.
Zannah told the court that the convict committed the offence on the same date at about 2 a.m.
He said that the convict and two others, now at large, formed criminal intention and dishonestly cut off the complainant’s barbwires with the intention to steal it.
Zannah said that in the process of carrying the barbwires, they saw the security guard and started running, but the security guard caught the convict.
He said that the convict made a confessional statement during police investigations.
The prosecutor said that the offences contravened Sections, 343, 95 and 79 of the Penal Code.
