‎Student docked for alleged $300, cell phone theft

A 27-year-old student, Sophia Sulieman, was on Friday arraigned in a Gudu Upper Area Court‎, Abuja, for allegedly stealing 300 US dollars and a cell phone.

The defendant of Masaka, Nasarawa State, was docked on a count charge‎ of theft.

The prosecutor, Fidelix Ogbobe, told the court that one Mr Yahaya Mohammed of Maitama, reported the matter at the Wuse Police Station on July 16.

He said that the complainant and the defendant on July14, 2017, went to Jazz and Blues, Wuse to relax.

He alleged that the defendant stole $300 and one Infinix‎ cell phone from the complainant in the process.‎

The prosecutor said that the offence contravened Section 287 of the Penal Code.

The defendant pleaded not guilty, while the judge, Alhaji Umar Kagarko, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N30, 000 with one surety in like sum.

He adjourned the case until Aug. 30 for hearing.
