Dankwambo lauds FG on fight against desert encroachment, erosion
Gov. Ibrahim Dankwambo of Gombe State has lauded the Federal Government for assisting the state in fighting the menace of desert encroachment and erosion.
Dankwambo made the commendation on Wednesday at an event marking the 2017 World Desertification Day in Bojude, Kwami Local Government Area of Gombe.
“I appreciate the Federal Ministry of Environment for its interventions and support to the state in fighting the menace of desert encroachment and erosion through the National Agency for Great Green Wall (NAGGW),” he said.
The governor called on donor agencies to support the state by establishing Clean Development Mechanism.
He said that this would complement the fight against desertification and climate change and as well guarantee access to funds in the international Carbon Market.
In his remarks, Alhaji Ibrahim Jibril, the Minister of State for Environment, said that tree planting and other associated activities would curb land degradation and impact of climate change.
Jibril said that the ministry had invested on implementable programmes aimed at curbing the rampaging effect of disasters in the country.
He said that the ministry was currently piloting “Greening’’.
