Tambuwal tasks IFAD staff on diligence
Gov. Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State has urged the staff of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) to strive to be more diligent in the execution of its programmes in the state.
Tambuwal made the call in Sokoto on Friday when he flagged off the distribution of motorcycles to local government staff officers of IFAD.
It was reported that the governor also distributed vehicles to officers of the Climate Change Adaptation and Agribusiness Support Programme (CASP).
He said that the state government, in collaboration with IFAD/CASP, had provided the officers with all the necessary working facilities.
The governor, who said this was in order to ease their hardship, urged beneficiaries to reciprocate the gesture by ensuring service delivery.
“The government will not relent in its effort toward boosting farming activities in the state; as such we are in the fore front of giving out counterpart fund on time,’’ he said.
Tambuwal, however, cautioned the beneficiaries against misusing the motorcycles, warning that sanctions await defaulters.
Earlier, the State Commissioner for Agriculture, Alhaji Ummaru Nagwari, said going by the successful implementation of IFAD/CBARDP Programme, the new initiative would be successful.
“This is due to the outlined policies that target mainly the rural dwellers and address their needs in all sectors of engagement,’’ the commissioner said.
Nagwari maintained that the ministry had so far been giving all the necessary support to the IFAD/CASP Programme.
In his remarks, the State Programme Coordinator, Dr Aminu Aliyu, commended the state government for its sustained support.
He said IFAD/CASP was planning to earmark N20 million to each Community Development Association in the 17 local government areas for the take off of different business activities.
