Court remands 2 men for alleged rape of sisters
Two persons, Shuaibu Samaila, 28, and Bashiru Mohammed, 26, were on Thursday remanded by a Jos Upper Area Court sitting in Kasuwan Nama, for alleged rape of two sisters.
Samaila and Mohammed were arraigned for criminal conspiracy and rape.
The presiding judge, Yahaya Mohammed, denied the accused persons bail, and adjourned the case till Aug. 31, for further hearing.
The prosecutor, Mr D. Francis, had told the court that the case was reported by one Bulus Badung, of Jos South Local Government, on March 29 at the Kaduna Vom Police Division.
Francis said that the case was later transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Jos.
The prosecutor said the complainant told the police that on March 26, his two daughters were attacked by the accused persons in a nearby bush.
He added that the complainant told the police that the two accused persons overpowered the girls, tied their hands with a rope and had unlawful carnal knowledge of them without their consent.
Francis told the court that during police investigation the accused persons admitted carrying out the offence and had signed a statement to that effect.
The prosecutor said the offences contravened sections 97 and 283 the Penal Code of Northern Nigeria.
The accused persons, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
