Control consumption of red meat, expert tells Nigerians

The Iyan-Zazzau and District Head of Sabongari, Zaria, Alhaji Bashar Aminu on Monday urged Sabongari Local Council of Kaduna State to construct a modern abattoir in the area.

Aminu made the plea in his office at the inauguration of the new Chairman of National Butchers’ Union, Sabongari branch.

The District Head, who was represented by Dan-Amar of Zazzau, Alhaji Garba Alhaji, said the call became imperative to ensure consumption of healthy meat in the area.

He observed that the only abattoir in the area, constructed about 25 years ago, was inadequate to meet the daily meat requirement of the community.

The district head said there has also been increase in the population of people residing in the area, as such a new abattoir would provide butchers an enabling environment to operate maximally in a hygienic environment.

In his speech, Kano State Chairman of the butchers union, Alhaji Kabir Gagogara, commended the branch for a peaceful election.

“We are happy that the butchers used their foresight to ensure that the new chairman succeeds his father.

“I want to use this medium to call on members to rally round the new leadership and encourage the leaders to carry everybody along,” he said.

Responding, the new chairman, Alhaji Adamu Ibrahim-Chigari, promised to sanitise the job, boost the capital base of members by opening up a platform for credit facilities to enhance their commercial undertakings.

He pledged to operate an open door policy and urged the members to support them in the effort to foster unity among members for the growth of all.

Our correspondent reports that the ceremony featured traditional boxing and display by some traditional musicians.
