Al-Makura reiterates commitment to quality, affordable education in Nasarawa

Al-Makura begins senatorial campaign, drums support for Buhari, others

Gov. Tanko Al-Makura of Nasarawa State on Wednesday reiterated his commitment to the provision of quality and affordable education in the state.

The governor spoke when he paid an unscheduled visit to Government Girls Secondary School, Garaku, Kokona Local Government Area, to monitor the level of on-going renovation of the school.

“The state government is seriously committed to ensuring that all children in the state are properly educated.

“We will do everything humanly possible to take education to the doorsteps of the people of the state,’’ he said.

Al-Makura said that the government planned to embark on massive construction and renovation of secondary school structures across the state, following the level of decay in the system.

The governor said an emergency was declared in the sector to give urgent attention to education and save it from collapse.

He promised that the government would continue to provide the needed infrastructure and facilities in schools, to reposition the sector.

“Funds expended on education by both government and parents are not a waste, as education is the live wire for meaningful socio-economic well-being of any nation or society,’’ Al-Makura said.

The governor said everything possible would be done to fund the sector properly, noting that education facilitates the production of professionals to man the various sectors of the economy.

He also reaffirmed government’s commitment to the provision of environment conducive for learning in its educational institutions.

Al-Makura said his administration would not be deterred in its effort to revitalise the sector for optimal result.
