Governor Aminu Tambuwal has raised the salaries and allowances of Sokoto Utd FC players by 100 per cent, according to the Team Manager, Ibrahim Gadanga.

Gadanga told our reporter on Friday in Sokoto that the improved welfare package was part of ongoing measures to motivate the team to greater heights.

He said that the salaries, feeding and transport allowances of the team’s technical and non-technical workers enjoyed similar review.

The team manager thanked the governor for the support, and promised to reciprocate the gesture by working hard to produce good results.

He expressed happiness that the team, for the first in its 13 years history, played high profile preseason matches in Kano and Kaduna where it engaged professional league outfits like Kano Pillars FC.

Gadanga said that the club had a grassroots development programme through which it was grooming young talents from across the state.

“We have grassroots development programme with more than 170 soccer teams across the state. It is from such feeder teams that we select players to compete for first team shirts,” he said.
