NEC directs states to provide data on out-of-school children

Gov. Atiku Bagudu of Kebbi State on Tuesday donated N500,000 and 1,000 bundles of cloth to widows of slain soldiers of 1 Battalion of the Nigerian Army.

Our correspondent reports that the cloth includes wrappers and brocade.

Bagudu, who addressed the widows and their children at the Dukku Barracks in Birnin Kebbi, said he would assist them with job opportunities, skills acquisition training and financial support.

He promised to assist the children of the deceased soldiers to get admission into the newly established command secondary school for boys while efforts would be intensified for same school for girls.

Bagudu said his administration would sustain support to the widows of the slain soldiers in consideration of the fact that they died in active service for the sake of national security and unity.

He said he would also support the widows who were graduates as well as those seeking employment, stressing that their deceased husbands were national heroes.

The Acting Commanding Officer of the Battalion, Capt. Adamu Aliyu, commended the governor for the donation, saying that it will alleviate the hardship faced by the widows and dependants.

He urged the beneficiaries to ensure prudent use of the assistance.

A cross section of the beneficiaries expressed satisfaction with the governor, saying that the gesture has given them a sense of belonging.
