CAN urges Niger council boss to fulfill campaign promises
The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Niger chapter has urged the council chairman of Bosso Local Government Area to fulfill his campaign promises to the people of the area.
Rev. Mathew Echioda, the CAN chairman in Niger made the call when he led the executives of the association on a courtesy visit on the Chairman, Alhaji Isah Wakil.
“We came to remind you of your campaign promises to the people. We appeal to you to try as much as possible to fulfill the promises,’’ he said.
Echioda said that part of the beauty of democracy was when campaign promises by politicians were fulfilled for the development of the society.
He, however, assured that the association would work with the State and Federal Governments to ensure peaceful coexistence among the people of the country.
The CAN chairman said that the body was happy that God answered their prayers over President Muhammadu Buhari’s recovery after his ailment and safe return.
He also thanked God for elevating the council chairman to the political position that should enable him affect the lives of those at the grassroots.
He enjoined him to carry the people along in the work of the council.
Responding, Wakil said that in spite of the meager resources available, his administration was making efforts to manage the council.
He said that the council was facing a lot of distractions as a result of court orders from debtors being owed by the local government which was inherited from his predecessor.
“My predecessor left a huge debt for me and the creditors are running out of patience hence they have resorted to fight through the courts,’’ he said.
The council boss appealed for prayers from the body to enable him pilot the affairs of the local government.
The visit was rounded off with prayers for the leadership and people of the area.
Wakil was elected under the platform of All Progressive Congress (APC), which won the 25 local governments of the state in January 2016.
