Ambode receives new CP; promises safety, prosperity of citizens

Gov.Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State on Tuesday said his administration would continue to ensure that the state’s judicial system partners the Police Force to guarantee safety and prosperity of citizens of the state.

Ambode said this when he received both the new State Commissioner of Police(CP), Mr Edgal Imohinmi, and the outgoing commissioner, Mr Fatai Owoseni, at the Lagos House, Ikeja.

“We cannot afford not to have a vibrant Police Force in the state, we will support community policing and ensure every community is properly policed.

“We are emphatic on law and order’’, he said.

Ambode commended Owoseni for his selfless service during his tenure in the state as the CP when he ensured that Lagos was secured for all to live and do business in.

He reassured Imohinmi of his administration’s support for his work.

He described Imohinmi as one who understands the security architecture of the state and promised that he would extend the same hand of fellowship extended to the outgoing commissioner to the new CP.

Earlier, Imohinmi, a former Deputy Commissioner of Police, Operations in the state, said that it would no longer be business as usual for criminals and hoodlums as well as for corrupt police officers.

He assured the governor that under his watch, there would be no cause for complaints saying that his officers would serve the people with all their hearts and might.

“Let me use this opportunity to warn criminals that it will not be business as usual.

“I also want to use the opportunity to warn my officers that the issue of human rights’ abuses, corruption and indiscipline in general will no longer be tolerated.

“I told my officers that my passion for this assignment is that if I have to dine with the devil with a long spoon to ensure that Lagosians live in peace, I will not hesitate to do so’’, he said.

According to him, Lagos is a cosmopolitan city where the issue of security and policing must also be dynamic.

Owoseni who had been redeployed to the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) in Abuja, thanked the governor for his support for security agencies in the state and the sustenance of the Lagos State Security Trust Fund.
