NUBIFIE dissociates from ULC planned strike, elects new executive

The National Union of Banks Insurance and Financial Institutions Employees, NUBIFIE has dissociated itself from the planned strike being called by the United Labour Congress (ULC). The position was made at the just concluded delegates’ conference held in Lagos at the weekend where new executive members were elected.

In a press statement made available to journalists yesterday, the newly elected president of the union, comrade Abdulrasheed Lukman, pointed out that ‘’ the new leadership of the Union states categorically that the Union is not aware of and will not partake in any planned industrial action as called by the United Labour Congress. The process of engaging in industrial action is well stipulated in the laws of the land and rules of engagement.

‘’The union just emerged from its delegate conference and new leadership emerged. There are a number of issues that beg for attention in what has been happening in our industry, shutting the financial industry at this critical period of our economic life is not an option’’, he added.

He pointed out further that the congress in session did not discuss neither did it ratify any industrial action; saying therefore that NUBIFIE dissociates itself from the planned action of United Labour Congress.

‘’The affiliation of NUBIFIE to United Labour Congress was done  out of the context of the procedure and constitution of our great Union and the congress in session resolved and passed a resolution for the return of NUBIFIE to its original affiliation, NLC as contained in the union Constitution’’, the statement added.

The union therefore directs all our members in the Banks and Insurance Companies to shun any other directive contrary to the position.

Other executive members who emerged at the conference include: Deputy President 1, Comrade Emmanuel Ogbanje; Deputy President 2, Comrade Ibrahim Saidu; V-President, Comrade Thomas Omoaka; National Treasurer, Comrade Wasiu Ajila; Deputy Treasurer, Comrade Bassey Mbede; the signing Trustee, Comrade Emmanuel Ederofia; National Trustee 1, Comrade Ademola Omodiji; Auditor 1, Comrade Samson Adesanya; Auditor 2, Comrade Kehinde Mathew; Auditor 3, Comrade Osasuyi Edomwonyi; National Female Rep, Comrade Omotayo Shonaike.
