Super Eagles certain to beat Benin Republic in WAFU Nations Cup semi-finals, club coach says
Akinade Onigbinde, the coach of FRSC Football Club of Abuja, on Wednesday said he was certain the Super Eagles would beat their Republic of Benin opponents on Thursday.
Onigbinde told our reporter in Abuja that victory for the home-based Eagles in the 2017 WAFU Nations Cup semi-finals was not only possible but very certain.
He said the Nigerian side had proved their superiority over the Benin side during the 2018 African Nations Championship (CHAN) Qualifiers through a 2-1 aggregate victory.
“I have confidence in the ability of this team led by coach Salisu Yusuf, and they can repeat the same feat of beating Republic of Benin, just as they did in Kano in August by winning 2-0.
“I am not afraid that Republic of Benin can upset the Super Eagles. Rather, Nigeria will have an easy ride over them considering the form of our team.
“It is the same players who defeated them then, and that was even when they had not blended well as a team. Definitely, beating them now is sure,’’ Onigbinde said.
It was reported that Nigeria will be meeting Republic of Benin in the WAFU Nations Cup semi-finals on Thursday for a place in the final match.
The Super Eagles had in August defeated Benin in 2-0 in Kano to qualify for 2018 CHAN, after a 0-1 loss to the Squirrels in Cotonou in the first leg match.
