Carpenter docked over alleged burglary, attempted rape
A 28-year-old carpenter, Tunde Akinsemoyin, was on Tuesday arraigned in an Okitipupa Magistrates’ Court over alleged burglary and attempted rape.
The defendant of no fixed address is standing trial on a five-count charge of burglary, felony, stealing, assault and attempted rape.
The Prosecutor, Insp. Zedekiah Orogbemi, told the court that the accused on Sept. 8 broke into the residence of one Mrs Foluke Akinmola at No. 8, Apalubo St., Igbodigo, Okitipupa.
Orogbemi said that the accused stole two Tecno android phones valued at N26, 000 from the place.
He added that on the same day, the defendant also burgled the residence of one Mrs Lolade Falade at No. 10, Apaluba St. Igbodigo, Okitipupa with the intention to commit felony.
The prosecutor said that the defendant threatened and assaulted Mrs Falade with a cutlass with the intention to have canal knowledge of her.
He said that the offences contravened Sections 412, 390(9), 360, 516 and 359 of the Criminal Code, Cap.37, Vol. 1 Laws of Ondo State, 2006.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges leveled against him.
The Magistrate, Mr Banji Ayeomoni, granted the accused bail in the sum of N50, 000 with two sureties in like sum each.
Ayeomoni ordered that the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and must present their national identity cards with one year tax clearance as part of the bail conditions.
He adjourned the case until Oct. 3 for further hearing.
