Student docked over alleged defilement of neighbour’s 6-year-old girl
A 19-year-old student, Joseph Idoh, who allegedly defiled the six-year-old daughter of his neighbour, was on Wednesday brought before an Ikeja High Court.
Idoh, who resides in Orile area of Agege, a suburb of Lagos, is facing a charge of defiling a child.
He denied the charge preferred against him.
The prosecutor, Mr Adebayo Haroun, said that Idoh committed the offence on Jan. 20, 2016 at his Orile residence.
“The child’s mother has passed away and her father has been solely in charge of upbringing of the complainant and her siblings.
“On that fateful day, she complained to her father of pains in her private part.
“She disclosed to him that Idoh, their neighbour, has on various occasions been having sexual intercourse with her.
“Her father, devastated by the claims, reported the matter to the police and the defendant was arrested,” Haroun said.
According to him, the offence contravened Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos 2011.
Justice Sedotan Ogunsanya upheld the bail conditions previously granted to Idoh by a Magistrates’ Court.
Ogunsanya adjourned the case until Nov. 20 for trial.
