Green Party of Nigeria strategises ahead of 2019 elections

The Green Party of Nigeria (GPN) says it is prominently positioned for the 2019 elections.

Its Deputy National Chairman, Chief Victor Chikwendu, said that the party had developed a strategy to make it focused, effective and productive to be reckoned with.

Chikwendu was speaking on the preparation of the party for 2019 elections at the party Stakeholders Forum in Owerri on Friday.

He said the part’s manifesto was aimed at putting smiles on faces of Nigerians.

The party chieftain said the party would feature selfless, competent men and women of integrity as party flag bearers at all levels.

“GPN will put people who understand the plight of Nigerians, people who had served the country with integrity.

“We will ensure the right people are put in the right positions of authority,” he said.

Chikwendu said the party’s manifesto, which would be unveiled at its forthcoming national convention, had growth and development of the nation and empowerment of youths, the disabled and the less privileged as its main thrusts.

Mr Raphael NwaDavid, the party’s South East Zonal Chairman, said the party would address the challenges the country had faced as a result of actions and inactions of past politicians.

He advised party members to set aside personal interests, but to work toward the interest, unity and progress of the party in particular and the nation in general.

“Green Party of Nigeria has a vision and is focused to cater mainly for the poor and the disabled.

“No part of the country will be marginalised; every tribe will be adequately accommodated,” he said.

Chief George Obi, the National Financial Secretary of the party, said the party would create a platform that would better the life of average Nigerians.

He said the party would also focus on revitalising education and health systems of the country.

According to him, no party can be said to be stronger than the other, adding that political equation has changed all over the world.

Obi advised Nigerians to ensure they voted men of integrity into power in the next general elections, noting that bad governance had been the bane of the country.

Mrs Ngozi Williams, the state Party Chairman, said the party would introduce mechanised agriculture to revamp the economy, create enabling environment for the youths and create more jobs.

She said GNP was the only party that recognised the importance of women and had mapped out the positions of the vice president and national secretary for women.

The Party Youth Leader in the state, Mr Uche Asoluka, said the party would sanitise the political system in the country.

He urged youths not to sell their votes and conscience for a better Nigeria.
