Afreximbank institutes lecture series for ex-President of AfDB, Ndiaye

The African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) has announced the institution of an international lecture series in honour of Dr Babacar Ndiaye, a former President of African Development Bank (AfDB), who died on July 13.

A statement by Mr Obi Emekekwue, the bank’s Head of Corporate Communications and Event Management, said the lecture would honour Ndiaye for his contributions to Africa’s economic development.

According to Emekekwue, Ndiaye will be remembered for his critical role in the creation of Afreximbank.

“Ndiaye was also instrumental to the creation of several other continental institutions such as Shelter Afrique and the African Business Roundtable.

“He is credited with fostering the emergence of many young entrepreneurs who have become builders of Africa.

“He was President of the AfDB from 1985 to 1995,” he said.

According to him, the lecture series will be an annual event to be held on the sidelines of the World Bank-IMF Annual Meetings.

He said that the inaugural lecture would take place at the World Bank-IMF Annual Meetings in Washington D.C. on Oct. 15.

“The keynote speaker will be Prof. Joseph Stiglitz, an Economist and Professor at Columbia University and Nobel Laureate in Economics Sciences.

“He will speak on the topic: “From Manufacturing Led Export Growth to a 21st Century Inclusive Growth Strategy for Africa,” he said.

Afreximbank is the foremost pan-African multilateral financial institution devoted to financing and promoting intra- and extra-African trade.

The bank was established in October 1993 by African governments, African private and institutional investors, and non-African investors.

The bank has it’s headquarter in Cairo.
